A very January January

A very January January

This month so far has been a bit crazy. We’ve started harvesting, but it’s been a game of start/stop. Between the weather, returning to the office job after maternity leave, and life with 2 smallies who seem 100% determined to live on opposite nap schedules, it’s been… a very Monday start to the year.

In early January the snow came. We were actually pretty lucky in comparison to some others around the country. For once we didn’t lose power, and we didn’t get snowed on too heavily. All the same it took longer than usual to melt and had pretty much just turned to ice after the second day. Because our beds are on a slope, we decided icy hills were not the place to spend that week. Aside from a rather pathetic attempt at a snowball fight, we stayed inside.

After that we headed out again. This year I’m determined to keep better records. In previous years it been a ‘cut, grade, store, wait, use’ system and this year is much the same, but with the added step of ‘record everything as you go, so that over the course of the year we can make more detailed notes, and more efficient plans and beds’. It’s more fun than it sounds, I promise.

Anyway it’s time to head out and tidy away all the tools, furniture and cut willow, as Storm Ėowyn is on the way.

Stay safe a chairde
